The National Federation of Press Women has honored Marianne with its 2013 Communicator of Achievement (COA) award presented during the Aug.23 Communicator of Achievement banquet held at the Marriott City Center in downtown Salt Lake City. “You will never know how much this award means to me,” she said. “I consider NFPW more than just my professional family.” The national COA award is given to the individual nominated by his or her state affiliate for highest achievement in the communications field and service to the affiliate, NFPW and the community. The story of the National Federation of Press Women began when Helen Miller Malloch had a vision for a national organization comprised of professional newspaperwomen and writers in 1935, similar to the vision Marion MacBride of the Boston Post had as the press commissioner for the 1884 World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial in New Orleans, La. Marianne has won awards by the Illinois Woman’s Press Association in the 2012 Mate E. Palmer Professional Communications Contest. First Place in the Brochure, Four-Color Print category and Second Place in Internal Communications category. Her latest short-story, “Missing” has been published in “Deep Waters”,the 2012 anthology published by Outrider Press, Inc. in affiliation with the TallGrass Writers Guild. “Deep Waters,” features poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction from across the nation.
